book.jpg Hi! I’m back!

Besides travelling, I’m an avid reader too. No doubt about it. So are you, I guess. Hmm..but where could we get cheaper ‘new books’? Here are some tips for you:

Kinokuniya (KLCC):
I love this shop. The books are arranged in a way that is so easy for us to find. Sections by sections. Categories by categories. And if you still get lost in the store, you could always go to the Search Machine or ask for help from any staff. They are well trained to assist you.
Pricewise: Normal published price. Sometimes have promotion: “20% discount on this item with purchase of another item in a single receipt on the same day”. That means 10% discount per book.
Trick: Buy another book with that sticker & you’ll get 20% off for both books.

Times Bookshop (KLCC):
The book arrays are limited. But hey, that’s not bad. It will cut half of your time on books selection.
Pricewise: 10% off is automatic if you own a membership card. Quite many times per year they will give you 25% discounts on certain books. Great savings huh? And as a member, you’ll get 20% birthday voucher every year.
Trick: Update your list on books you wanna buy. On your birthday month, go all out buying in bulk. Hahaa.

MPH (Midvalley, One Utama):
Great collection of books. The irony is I always get lost in the store! 😦 ReadersCircle card is not that helpful. Anyway, booktalks & some weekend programs for your kids are good.
Pricewise: Quite expensive. Even during promotions, on average you’ll get only 10% off.
Trick: Go to MPH for free readings while sipping your Starbucks. Ghee..

Borders (Berjaya Timesquare):
Great display of books & wide range. Staff are well trained too. Different experience!
Pricewise: Normal published rate. Sometimes offer as high as 20% discounts on certain titles. For some books though, the prices are so low – gardening, DIY & etc.
Trick: No trick here.

Bookshops at Airports:
I love the ‘Bestseller‘ bookshop at KLIA. They offer, well as you guess – only the bestseller books. This shop is great to help busy traveller like me. The price for certain titles are cut by 20%. Other bookshops at airports offer normally priced books.

For certain authors, buy online via their websites. Some give you as high as 70% discounts!

Reality Check:
1. Some people said 10%, 20%, 25% off per book is nothing. I say, that 25% discounts can give you a FREE book after your 4th buy.

Hope the tips help you buy & read more. Or maybe you have a better idea. Do you mind sharing?

See ya!

miri-food3.jpgmiri-food4.jpg Salam dari pantai,

Haa..mane satu pilihan anda? Heheh..tak kisah la mane satu pilihan qalbu. Yg penting kita suka kan..

Anyway, entry hari ni bukan nak cerita pasal pilih belacan ke cencaluk. Tapi nak bagitau, time ni tgh musim udang bubok kat Miri ni.

miri-food1.jpgmiri-food2.jpg
2 jenis udang kepal segar baru naik dari pantai Miri.

Udang ni sedap kalo buat goreng dgn bawang + kunyit. Buat pais dlm daun pisang pon sodaap. Makan panas2. Hmm.. Tapi biasa le mcm kat Semenanjung, org buat cencaluk & belacan gak. Ikan paus pon feveret mkn udang nih. Hehe..

Tenung la foto tu puas2 dan kecapilah nikmat udang geragau segar. Heh!

Nota definisi: udang geragau(nama umum)=udang bubok(nama sarawak)=udang kepal(nama kedah).

Reality Check:
1. Dlm setahun ada 2-3 kali musim udang geragau kat Miri. Time ni ramai yg jual udang ni kt tepi jln. 4 kilo/RM10.  Ramai gak buat belacan segar.

Tu je hari ni..

Apa yg tgh ‘hot‘ kat tempat anda skrg ni?

kk-food1.jpg Salam makan2,
Segar: udang bakar, sotong bakar, ikan bakar.. takyah ckp byk!

Jom makan2. Heheh..dah lama nak ajak anda semua makan2. Tak boleh secara ‘real‘, secara ‘virtual‘ pun jadik la kan? 😉

Hari ni nak ajak makan kat Medan PBB, Kota Kinabalu. Masa balik dari Danum hari tu singgah kat KK kejap-petang sampai pagi.

kk-food2.jpg Aksi ‘live’ gadis Sabah dok tgh bakar ayam + ikan.

Medan PBB sebelah jek dgn Pasar Filipina. kk-food3.jpg

Ada org kate tak klass mkn kat sini. Pada saya, semua tu nampak suci jek. Dahtu, org2 Islam gak yg dok jual tuh. Cuma dorang dari Filipina.

Reality Check:
1. Saya pasti tiap hari yg ada pasar mlm, tak kurang RM200K pasar ni boleh generate utk para peniaga.
2. Makanan laut yg segar + baru masak + kena bayu laut waktu petang = fuhh.. rugi sape taknak coba. Cobaan! hahaa.
3. “I have no special talent. I am just passionately curious.” : Albert Einstein.

Jumpe lagi..

Penyelidik Malaysia Dok Tido Ke? 22 February 2007

danum2b.jpgdanum2a.jpg Salam dari hutan 🙂 ,
Pokok ni selebar 7 kali saya!

Sepanjang 3 hari kat Danum (Sabtu-Isnin lepas), kami ditemani sekumpulan penyelidik hutan hujan (rainforest) dari UK. Dorang ni mmg dah lama dok buat research kat situ. Termasuk seluruh Borneo, Bali, Sumatera & Jawa.

Tiap hari kami makan pagi & mlm sama2. Tapi lawak gak bila tanya apa yg di’research’kan. Ada yg study >150 jenis semut. Ada yg study >3000 jenis kupu2. Ada yg study rama2. Ada yg study burung2 dan hidupan2 liar lain. Dari undergrad sampai ke PHd. Dorang ni duduk berbulan2 & bertahun2 utk buat kajian. Menakjubkan bila rupenye kwsn kita ni menyimpan koleksi burung terbanyak di dunia!

Kami bertiga (Saya, Nik & Christina) yg dari dunia bisnes ni mmg le rasa pelik dan kelakar. Hehee..

Ada lak satu family ni dari UK. Mak & ayah dia dtg temankan dia utk buat research berbulan2 kat situ.

Bila saya dok belek2 buku daftar masuk ke Danum Valley Field Centre tu, lebih ramai org luar yg gi situ. Contohnye dari UK, Netherlands, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Czech, Jerman, Sweden, Jepun dll.

Ke mana para penyelidik Malaysia? Helo..helo..khazanah kita sekali lagi tgh kena rompak ni…

danum2b.jpg.danum2c.jpg.danum2f.jpg.danum2e.jpg.danum2d.jpg

Pelbagai trek yg kami redah…

Reality Check:
1. Suka tengok betapa minatnya (passionate) penyelidik2 ni buat kajian. Semangat yg luar biasa!
2. Bila bercakap dgn Ian (arkitek kat situ-org UK), dia kenalkan  satu buku burung2 kat saya – Guide to Birds in Borneo, Bali & Java. Buku tu pun hasil tulisan sorang profesor dari Universiti Oxford, UK. Prof tu dh kaji burung kat kwsn ni selama 20 tahun.

Apa komen anda?

Esok: jalan2 cari makan..
